The Primary stage of education is immensely important, as it is here that the foundations of literacy, numeracy and other structures are laid down for future life. At Chitkara, we aim to nurture skilled, confident children who enjoy studying, care about others and can increasingly take responsibility for their own actions.

The Early Childhood curriculum offers a framework that is universal to the natural understandings and methods of instruction employed by young children. It is inquiry-based and inquiry is believed to be the pinnacle of the classroom environment. It is through this format that young children develop the early understandings of text and its place in our society, the role of mathematical systems and the implications of scientific and societal actions and outcomes. Children question, explore and interact in informal and formal modalities to discover and make informed choices and come to conclusions.

The maximum class size is 20. Each class is taught by a trained, qualified graduate teacher supported by a teaching assistant. Children are viewed as individuals and whole class teaching is kept to the minimum. Students will work in small, ever-changing groups, which reflect their interests and abilities.

  • The PYP uses ideas from the schools of USA, UK and Australia, which are recognised as good contemporary classroom practice.

  • The PYP strives to nurture and sustain this curiosity in order to produce children who have the skills to be lifelong learners.

  • The PYP encourages a proactive approach among children, parents and the global community.
